A distinguished panel of friends turned out to relate stories about PPB Honoree Rick Dees at the January 23rd celebrity luncheon in his honor. During Rick Dees' decades-long run as KIIS-FM's top-rated morning show host, he often called upon the multiple voice talents of his wife, Julie McWhirter Dees, and other family members to entertain his morning drive-time audience. Julie is an accomplished voice actress and impressionist, best known for her work as Jeannie in the animated version of Jeannie and as Bubbles in Jabberjaw. (David Keeler photo) |
PPB President Chuck Street, who worked with Rick Dees for many years as his on-air helicopter traffic reporter, socialized with Rick and one of today's busiest TV and motion picture producers, Jerry Bruckheimer. An LA radio icon and an LA TV icon got together before the January 23rd celebrity luncheon at Sportsmen's Lodge. Rick Dees and PPB Past President Tom Hatten posed for photographer David Keeler in the green room. Tom is also a member of PPB's Diamond Circle. (David Keeler photo) |
It was an Armed Forces Radio reunion at the Rick Dees luncheon for two of LA's former disc jockeys and PPB Board Member Gerry Fry. Both Jim Pewter (left) and Gene Price (center) entertained military personnel around the world with their daily programs recorded in Hollywood and sent overseas. Gerry was the AFRTS Director of Programming at that time. |
Mrs. Fred (Lois) Travalena (left) and her son Cory joined the late Casey Kasem's daughter, Kerri, in greeting Rick Dees prior to the PPB celebrity luncheon in his honor on January 23rd. This luncheon was especially social as many of Rick Dees' former colleagues and friends gathered in Sportsmen's Lodge to honor him. (David Keeler photo) |
